The Remington Group Pinktober Blood Drive.

The Remington Group Pinktober Blood Drive.

Every October people all over the world show their support for those affected by Breast Cancer in an awareness campaign known as Pinktober.

To commemorate this year’s Pinktober campaign and stand in support of every woman and man who have BRAVELY fought the battle or continue to fight this battle against breast cancer, the Remington Group chose to donate blood to help save lives.

We chose to do a blood drive as part of our Pinktober campaign because donating blood is one very important way you can offer life-sustaining help to people battling cancer. Blood donations are as vital as medicine to a cancer patient, as patients require blood transfusions regularly due to some cancer treatments that damage blood cells.

On Friday the 22nd of October 2021, our staff donated blood to the Port Moresby General Hospital through the Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine.

The Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine provides a global standard facility in managing all areas of blood collection, testing and blood products that benefits critical departments of the hospital because blood is needed for women with pregnancy complications, people with severe injuries from accidents, patients undergoing surgeries and patients with cancer and other chronic illnesses.

The blood donated to the Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine not only serves the Port Moresby General Hospital but also treats referral cases and distributes them to patients in other hospitals! Therefore, the demand for blood is high.

A donated bag contains 400ml (volume) of blood and helps save three lives! Donating blood was a rewarding experience for each of our donor staff and we aim to continue to support the Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine.

“Knowing that people in dire need of blood transfusions can be saved by donating just one free, healthy bag of blood is pretty amazing. It’s an amazing cost-free way of giving back to the community around us, it’s a social responsibility that has a lifesaving impact. More people should donate blood, more corporate houses should jump on the bandwagon as a way of giving back to the communities we operate in.” – Remington Technology Sales Consultant, Ludovicka Miamel.

“The Remington Group has been very proud to do its small part by donating blood through the Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine. Those of us who have been in some way touched by the impacts of cancer personally, or to our loved ones, know well how important the work being done by the Sir Brian Bell Centre really is, and we want to say Thank You”!
